Have I really not posted here in almost a year? I have been drawing stuff, I’ve just been forgetting about the blog. Pictured above: an experiment in a coloring and shading style I’ve never tried before. I do think I like how it looks and may try it again. I do think it probably looks better on cleaner lineart though.

Things are really rough for an indie artist lately. I’m not an especially successful artist but I’ve been hearing that even bigger illustrators are struggling to find work now. Comics have never really been good to anyone. I’m not sure what else to do so I’m trying to branch out. I mostly have been posting art on Bluesky since I left Twitter, but I’m trying to post on other socials more also. I’m using Tumblr more again and am trying Instagram, though nothing I post on the latter gets any attention at all. I thought it was just that Insta hates still images now but I’ve posted a couple of speed paints now and they haven’t done any better.

We’ll see how long I can keep up with posting there, at some point it should either do something or become clear that it’s not worth the effort. Instagram seems to be where a lot on Indie authors go to find artists so I was hoping maybe I could find work that way. I think a book cover or something of the like might be quite interesting to work on, but at this rate I fear I may only get to do it if I write a novel myself.

I actually have been working on one but it’s going very slowly and I’m not sure it will pan out into anything. I’ve written novel length fanfic before and of course made several longer comics but never finished a prose novel that was 100% my own, uh, IP I guess. Though I don’t much like the term IP, it feels so corporate.
